...Many years ago, (about 45) my dear
Father unwittingly set me a challenge. During his life, he set me many; -
this one, he didn't plan: - He just made a notice board for our Church.
Correct in all Heraldic Detail, as confirmed by the College of Heralds in
London, It now looks like this: - And I have been approached to make another one, very similar, to go at the other side of the gateway... Dads original is apparently quite simple,
just what you would expect to see outside a Church... but on closer
inspection, if you look at the shields, you find detail... the sort of
detail that casual observers seldom even wonder 'how did anyone make that?
...and that detail has been painted many times in the past 40 odd years, so the actual crisp carved edges that I remember from my childhood are now 'a bit blurry'.
The new notice board is to have similar proportions, but with a glazed front, to cover a message board where notices can be pinned, with a back that opens to allow notices to be changed... apart from that, and a different 'heading', the carvings are to be the same. The Church also wanted a record of the project, so here it is. Click on a link to reveal a page. |
